Berlin Intermediate School

Berlin Intermediate School (BIS), located in Berlin, Maryland, accommodates students from farms, small towns, and the large summer resort of Ocean City. Our 4th, 5th and 6th grade students are members of academic teams: Dolphins, Barracudas, Sharks, Marlins, Sailfish and Terrapins. As a result of our environmental initiatives, our school has been recognized by the Governor as a model Maryland Green School. BIS received the top award for Energy Efficiency in the county in 2013. BIS, an Arts Immersion School, has been recognized as a Kennedy Center National School of Excellence in Arts Education. Over 20 after school clubs are offered to all students. An After School Academy provides academic and arts programs for our 4th, 5th and 6th grade students. The students in our performing arts programs present musicals at least two times a year. Our school motto is "Believe, Imagine, Succeed."

Fifth Grade Festival Orchestra received a superior rating at the Eastern Shore Orchestra's District IV Festival, Kelly Thaw and Amanda Senter received the PDS Mentor Teacher Award from Salisbury University, Governor's Green School 2009, MSPAP Recognition for Improved Scores 2006-2009, Destination Imagination World Finalists, Arts Immersion School since 2004, Mid-Atlantic Gold Leaf Award, 2005 Accreditation for Growth set by the Middle States Association, 2012 Reaccreditation for Growth, AEMS Creative Ticket School of Excellence Award 2007, Kennedy Center National School of Distinction in Arts Education 2008, Pam Massey selected as a Maryland State Master Teacher at the Educators Effectiveness Academy from 2011-2013, Met AMO for MSA in all areas for 2012-2013, 95% of BIS students scored Proficient or Advanced on 2013 MSA Reading. 92% of BIS students scored Proficient or Advanced on 2013 MSA Math. PBIS Gold School Recognition 2010, 2011, Maryland Governor's Model Green School 2010-11, 10-year Award Winner of Maryland State PLANT Award, Rhonda Walsh named a Maryland State Service Learning Fellow, PDS Partnership with Salisbury University, Two National Board Certified Teachers.
