School Highlights and Awards
Pocomoke Elementary School (PES) achieved its original accreditation through the Middle States Association in 2004 and again in 2011. Project Intervene, an extended day center of learning housed in two of our local churches, was recognized in October 2002 by the Maryland State Department of Education for its work in helping minorities to excel. Our PreK program at PES has been validated by the State of Maryland. For four years in a row, we have been named by the state as a PBIS Gold School. In 2008, our school received a superior status. Pocomoke Elementary School became a Maryland Character Education School of the Year, a Panasonic National School Change Finalist, and was recognized by the Maryland Association of Curriculum and Supervisors as a Program of Excellence. Just recently, the school was named a Panasonic National School Change Winner - only one of six in the United States established to recognize schools that have risen to exemplary status based on student achievement. In 2011, PES received the Silver Hammer Award and was recognized in an awards ceremony by the Comptroller's Office in Annapolis. This recognition celebrated the commitment to superior building maintenance.
