  • Worcester County Public Schools is applying to the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) for two 21st Century Community Learning Centers grants for after-school and summer-school programming.One grant, EXPLORE, will be a STEM-focused (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) after-school and summer-school program for fourth and fifth grade students at Pocomoke and Snow Hill middle schools. The other grant, HORIZONS, is a STEM-focused after-school and summer-school program for students in ninth through twelfth grades at Pocomoke and Snow Hill high schools.This grant will be submitted on June 4 to MSDE (Baltimore) and is now available for examination at the Board of Education Offices at 6270 Worcester Highway, Newark, Maryland, 21841.
  • Stephen Decatur High School was closed on Friday, May 23, 2014, due to a watermain break in the building. Crews worked over the Memorial Day weekend to ensure that the facility was ready for students and staff on Tuesday, May 27. SDHS opened on a regular schedule on Tuesday.
  • Some people - those using SMART Boards and older model monitors - are finding that our new website is not designed to squeeze back to an older square presentation. It is designed to stretch to a wide screen presentation. To fix how the website displays on a square screen, on Internet Explorer, click View > Zoom > 75% (instead of 100%) and the display will be corrected!
  • On Monday, April 28, 2014, Pocomoke High School was evacuated due to an odor of smoke caused by a faulty belt on an HVAC unit. The Pocomoke Fire Department, the Worcester County Fire Marshall, the Worcester County Sheriff's Department, and school system administrators were onsite, evaluated the facility, and gave the all-clear for students and staff to re-enter the school building.The belt will be replaced. The evacuation lasted about 20 minutes.
  • On April 15, 2014, the Board of Education approved June 13, 2014, as the Last Day of School for the 2013-2014 school year.  This decision was made after recouping 6 of the 10 days missed due to inclement weather and after having received a waiver of 4 days from the State Superintendent.
