Ocean City Elementary School

Ocean City Elementary School (OCES) is a PreK through Grade 4 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. The unifying thread of our school is that we work as a team with one vision in mind. This vision is to make all students successful academically, as well as behaviorally, and make children productive citizens in our society.

Mission Statement

The mission of OCES is for all students to be prepared to pursue a career of their choice and to become productive citizens. The school motto: "I have a curious mind, a caring heart, and the courage to never give up" encourages and empowers students to seek information and love learning, treat others with kindness and respect, and to always, always work hard. The kind of student we hope to grow is a continuous learner, an appreciator of the arts, and a giver of their personal gifts. At OCES, teachers and staff follow the motto and hold high expectations for themselves and the students. There is a commitment to provide a safe, orderly, caring and attractive enrivonment in which students can learn and grow. The staff, parents and students are united in the commitment of educating the leaders of the future.

School Highlights and Awards

In 2001, OCES was named a Maryland Blue Ribbon School and a 2001 National Blue Ribbon School.  Since 2003, Ocean City Elementary School has been one of the top performing schools on the Maryland School Assessment Standards and continues to be one of the top performing schools in Maryland. Ocean City Elementary was recognized as the first Maryland elementary school (out of 1,455 public schools) to achieve 100% proficiency in both reading and math in 2007 and 2008 on the Maryland School Assessment. In the Spring of 2015, 3rd and 4th grade students took the new Maryland School Assessment Test (PARCC). OCES students performed very well with the majority of the students scoring consistently higher than the state average. In addition to academics, OCES has been named a Maryland School of Character, a National School of Character Honorable Mention, and received a National Promising Practices Award. Continuing, Ocean City Elementary School piloted a Health Literacy Program in collaboration with Atlantic General Hospital, Herschel S. Horowitz Center for Health Literacy at the University of Maryland School of Public Health, and the Worcester County Board of Education. The program was recognized by the Maryland State Senate, 38th District, and received a Commendation from the Worcester County Commissioners in June 2014 as a school charting the course of change for health in our community and the nation. Mary Gay Calcott Award for Excellence in Education in partnership with the Community Foundation in 2014.
