Snow Hill High School

Located in the seventeenth century town of Snow Hill, Maryland, on the banks of the scenic Pocomoke River, Snow Hill High School is a small dynamic learning community that serves a diverse group of students in grades 9 through 12. A tradition of excellence is evidenced at Snow Hill High School through many of the school's activities and programs. For over one hundred years, the motto of the "Snow Hill Eagles" has been "Honor, Service and Efficiency." More recently, Snow Hill High School has adopted "Snow Hill High School - Where Eagles SOAR with Scholarship, Ownership, Achievement and Respect" as its school motto. The instructional vision of our school is to provide our students with learning experiences that will empower them to graduate to be lifelong learners, to respect diversity, and to become productive members of their local and worldwide community.

Our students consistently demonstrate a high attendance rate and one of the lowest dropout rates in the State of Maryland. On the Maryland High School Assessments and PARCC, the students at Snow Hill High School have performed as well or better than their peers across the state in the assessed areas of English, Algebra I, and Biology. Over 54% of the student body qualifies each year for recognition as WeXL Student Scholars through the WeXL Scholastic Recognition Program, which honors students for consistently earning honor roll status. Over 80% of our graduates continue their education in a two or four year institution of higher learning or through a specialized trade school or enter the military. In all areas of our students' activities, Snow Hill High School enjoys a wealth of community support and involvement. Mission Statement

The mission of Snow Hill High School, a small dynamic learning community, is to nurture and enhance the academic, social, physical and emotional potential in each of our students by providing multiple pathways for student success using standards-based curricula. Through innovative teaching and learning, as well as partnerships in our community, we empower all students to contribute positively to society.

School Highlights and Awards

The MCJROTC unit of SHHS has been recognized as a Naval Honor School for fifteen of the past 16 years. The graduating class of 2016 amassed in excess of $2.2 million in merit-based scholarship offers. Snow Hill High School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Secondary Schools through the Accreditation for Growth protocol. In 2010, Snow Hill High School was recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education for overall achievement and sub-group achievement on the 2009-2010 High School Assessments. Since 2008, Snow Hill High School has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a Silver Award school in their Best High Schools study of public high schools in our nation. 2015-2016 marks the seventh year that SHHS has received this same recognition.

The Snow Hill High School Band maintains a reputation of pride and excellence. During the past 27 years, the band has performed in 130 competitive events against bands from eighteen different states and the District of Columbia. In this time, the band has received 125 first place awards, four second place awards, and one third place award.

Snow Hill High School is currently involved in a $49 million phased, renovation/addition project. This endeavor is an occupancy project with an estimated completion date of December 2016. When completed, Snow Hill High School will be a state of the art learning facility equipped with instructional technology, geo-thermal heating and ventilation systems, and an athletic complex that includes a turf field and track.

Special Programs

To meet the needs of our students, Snow Hill High School offers an array of special programs which include Comprehensive Curricular Programs for Preparation for the Scholastic Aptitude Test, a Pupil Service Team, Academic Support Program, a Freshman Focus Mentoring Initiative, and a Bridge Plan for Academic Validation completion program.

After School Programs

Snow Hill High School offers an After School Learning Academy and Summer Academy to all enrolled students. The After School and Summer Learning Academies provide students with academic assistance and enrichment opportunities.

Parent Involvement Opportunities

Snow Hill High School encourages parental involvement through the Band Boosters, Choral Boosters, JROTC Boosters, Athletic Boosters, School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC), School-based Volunteer Program, and various other school committees.
